What is the meaning of fully-managed web hosting?

iNetPlanet website hosting services are primarily geared toward local small businesses, individuals, and organizations who do not have an interest in being involved with the technical details of publishing a website and maintaining a web server.  Fully-managed web hosting with iNetPlanet means we will manage all aspects of your website and the web server hosting the site.  iNetPlanet web server operating systems, security features, and performance characteristics are kept up to date, relieving you of those responsibilities.

What about website content updates?

Some customers want the ability to updated web pages, articles, and photos on their website.  In that case, we recommend a WordPress website.  With WordPress, you can manage the site content without having any coding experience or lot of technical knowledge.  WordPress uses a a server-side scripting language called PHP.  iNetPlanet installs WordPress for you and keeps PHP and WordPress current as new updates are released.  If you prefer to have us manage the content of your website, we will do that for a nominal fee.

What about hacking prevention?

We protect your website’s security with multiple layers of protection to keep bad actors away from your online property.  First, we have firewall hardware appliances to prevent certain traffic from ever reaching your web server.  Then, at the server level we run firewall software that blocks hackers before they can even reach your website.

Finally, your WordPress website will be installed with another firewall software layer that is specifically tuned to block unwanted automated software robots (“bots”) and other bad actors.

We take cybersecurity very seriously.  Even low-traffic websites face hundreds, thousands and even tens of thousands of hacking attempts every day.  While nobody can guarantee that a website will never be compromised, no iNetPlanet hosted website has ever been hacked in our 18 year history.

Will my website be backed up?

iNetPlanet hosted websites are backed up periodically.  Backups are redundantly stored on multiple servers to ensure against catastrophic failure.  All of this takes place automatically, requiring no effort from the website owner.  There is no additional charge for this service.

 

New backup power system installed

We are please to announce the deployment of a new backup power generator.  This 24 kW generator can power all of our servers and our office in the event of power loss.

All of our servers have 100% power loss protection with redundant systems.  The first level of protection comes from uninteruptable power supplies (UPS).  Each UPS protects our servers from power surges and short-term power loss with battery-powered inverters, which immediately kick in when trouble is detected.

The new generator now guards against longer power interruptions.  It will automatically start up after a 30-second power loss.  This represents a significant investment in the business, which will ensure even more reliable service for our customers.  While Portland General Electric is typically quite reliable, severe weather events are becoming more common, and accidental damage to the PGE grid can occur for a multitude of other reasons.  iNetPlanet recognizes that in times of emergency, customer access to their cloud data and their websites may be more important than ever.
